ADFIAP Award for EDI in Human Resource Development

EDI has been awarded the prestigious ADFIAP (Association of Development Financing Institutions in Asia and Pacific) award in the category of Human Resource Development for innovative and outstanding projects that have led to huge development impact in the country. The multiplier effect of EDI's work in the area of 'Developing a Cadre of Resource Persons to Promote Entrepreneurship' was adjudged above all and was considered for the award which will be presented at the ADFIAP Awards Night during the 35th ADFIAP Annual Meetings in Istanbul, Turkey.

India is a geographically huge country and to reach out to potential entrepreneurs across the nation so as to impress upon them the benefits of adopting entrepreneurship as a career, EDI develops human resource to address this target in every nook and corner of the country through activities, such as; Faculty Development Programmes in Entrepreneurship; Programmes for Entrepreneur Trainer Motivators; International capacity building programmes and SME development programme. As a National Resource Institute in the field of entrepreneurship education, training, research and institution building, EDI has not just pioneered innovative programmes to promote growth but has also simultaneously concentrated on institutionalising a cadre of resource persons to ensure sustainability of its initiatives. For example, it has readied a group of 48 business counsellors for development of small industries; it has imparted training to Industry Association Officers so that they could in turn guide their members and promote industry growth. Internationally also the Institute has carried out several missions in developing countries to institutionalise entrepreneurship, and among its various direct interventions, creating a cadre of resource persons has been a prominent one so that these trained individuals could intervene at the appropriate time and in the appropriate manner to ensure sustainability of EDI's efforts.

To institutionalize entrepreneurship nationally, EDI has helped 12 states establish state level ED Organisations in their respective states, besides establishing network with over 500 Non Government Organisations. Also at the international level, the Institute has established similar organisations in Cambodia, Lao PDR, Myanmar, Vietnam, Jeddah and Bahrain. Presently it is working towards establishing centres in Uzbekistan, Gabbon, Rwanda, Senegal, Namibia and Zambia.

EDI implements concept to completion approach in wide spreading entrepreneurship in these regions; of which human resource development is a significant aspect.
